News From the Chairman;B.O.R.C. News January 2010 The Bloemfontein Off Road Club hereby wishes everyone the best for the new year and may 2010 exceed your expectations. The BORC committee had their first committee meeting for the year where drastic decisions were taken regarding the future of the club. It was decided that the club in its current format and operations will not survive 2010 thus it was imperative that a plan be implemented to attract more members as follows: 1) 16 January 2010 – Move canteen container at flat track to main clubhouse where a canteen will be operated over weekends.Furthermore once the canteen is operational a paved veranda under the roof will be built which could be used for functions. 2) 16 & 17 January 2010 – MX track will be repaired and race ready. 3) 23 January 2010 – Dealer day. All the major bike shops: Honda Wing, Sally’s Yamaha, Amphibia, Bloem Power Sport, Jet Sport, KTM (Marathon Motors) & Speed Bike, will display their latest 2010 Off Road bikes and quads at the Tempe MX track as from 11h00. The bikes and quads will be made available to test at the discretion of the dealers. Entry fee will be R20 p/car. Fires will be supplied by the club for braai and refreshments will be sold at the club canteen. So please do not bring own beverages, rather support the club. 4) Club membership, pit fees and MSA forms will be available on the club house lawn as from 11h00 where 2010 fees can also be paid. a) Membership fees are as follows: Full membership – R1 200-00 which includes full track use 24/7. Optional extras are gate and toilet keys as the caretaker normally has his day off on a Monday. Full members qualify for pit rental. b) Enduro/Off Road – this option is for members who require membership for an Off Road MSA competition licence. This membership enables a person to make use of the MX circuit or Off Road circuit at R50-00 per day. This membership does not qualify for pit rental. c) Country membership – R600-00. This option is for members who live outside the Bloemfontein district who want to have free track use. Pit rental is also optional. This option is also available to riders who make use of the 50cc track exclusively. d) Non-members – Non members may make use of the tracks after signing indemnity form at gate at R100-00 p/day. e) Pit fees – Existing pits are available at R600-00 p/year and will be on a first come first serve basis. If you take over an existing pit it must be repaired by the 7th of February 2010 or the pit will be forfeited with no refund. The track caretaker will when time permits, water and cut pit grass but the onus still remains with the pit owner to keep pit tidy and maintained. 5) 13 February 2010 – Club race. More than 180 entries from all over the country are expected for this day as the track closes on the 14th of February 2010 at 18h00 for the Jnr & Snr Moto-X National on the 27 & 28 February 2010. Please visit our website for the relevant Rules & Regs and entry form for the event. It is suggested that all our new and future MX members spectate on the day as we are going to start our own Club Championship for the remainder of the year, especially the 50cc riders. 6) 27 & 28 February 2010 – Jnr & Snr MX National which will be televised on 2 Wheels. 7) To cater for Off Road/Enduro enthusiasts, a track with all types of obstacles is going to be layed out with the help of legends like Graham McLachlan & Wade Blaauw who have tons of experience in the Off Road fraternity will assist in laying out a well marked Off Road track with a length of approximately of between 6-8 km. A time ladder for times around the Off Road track & MX track will be updated periodically at the Club house when times are officially taken at events. Events on the Off Road track include tag teaming racing and time trials. 8) BORC MX Club championship races will take place on the following dates: 17 April 2010 15 May 2010 3 July 2010 21 August 2010 23 October 2010 13 November 2010 Classes will be as follows: 65cc – 85cc Class (age 5 -11 yrs) MX B Class (novice big wheel bikes) MX Open (pro’s) Enduro/Off Road Time trial events: 27 April 2010 1 May 2010 16 June 2010 31 July 2010 18 September 2010 Please note that dates may change as the year progresses. The BORC Club championship will be contested over 6 rounds and at the conclusion of the 6 rounds a champion will be determined in each class. Year end function and prize giving at venue (still to be determined) will be held where all champions will be recognised and awarded trophies. A year end function will also be held to honour BORC Enduro/Off Road champions. 9) Steak evenings. Once a month for example there will be a club steak braai get together at the club house container where the club will provide a steak and salad braai at a nominal fee. 10) News letters every month informing members of up and coming events. A “for sale” or “wanted” section in the news letter can also be made available. 11) Moto-X clinic and rider training. If there is sufficient interest, Moto-X clinics can be arranged for beginners with Anton Engelbrecht. A pro MX rider can also be arranged for the more advanced riders and we have already negotiated with the likes for Ross Branch and Richard v/d Westhuizen. 12) Track will be watered for the weekends, only if the club is well supported in numbers. Hopefully the above mentioned 12 point plan will put the BORC on track again as we are, believe it or not, one of the oldest motor sport clubs in the Free State.
